In all the discussion over the removal of lead from petrol (and the atmosphere) there doesn’t seem to have been, any mention of the difference between driving in the city and in the country.
While I realise my leaded petrol car is polluting the air wherever I drive; I feel that when you travel through the country, where you only see another car every five to ten minutes, the problem is not as severe as when traffic is concentrated on city roads.
Those who want to penalise older, leaded petrol vehicles, and their owners don’t seem to appreciate that in the country there is no public transport to fall back upon and one’s own vehicle is the only way to get about.
I feel that country people, who often have to travel huge distances to the nearest town and who already spend a great deal of money on petrol, should be treated differently to the people who live in the city.

It’s that time of year again! Many of you have already begun work on your department’s budget for next year. In an attempt to make the process smoother and more satisfactory for everyone involved, we are making some changes to the process.
As usual, department heads are asked to submit preliminary budgets to the Executive Committee by August 15. This year, we want to involve more employees in the process. A special committee will review the budgets. This committee will consist of four members of the Executive Committee and two representatives from each department.
As department heads, you will choose your own representatives to the committee. They must be able to contribute 10 hours a week for a month. Please submit their names by August 7.
